Black man for McCain

August 1, 2008

CRAZY! We were interviewing people for our presentation on the presidential elections and it went pretty good. I interviewed the first person. It was a woman. She gave me some good answers and some valid points. It went pretty smoothly. The reporters were Jameer, Danielle, Jazmen and myself. We alternated from each person. We tried so hard to get a middle eastern and some Jews, but they weren’t interested. I begged and pleaded with a Asian guy because his views seemed really interesting and different. However, after 5 mins on debating about time, he declined. The interview would have been done in 5. So much for bad timing.

Anyhow, pertaining to the title of this blog, Jameer interviewed a black guy who asked to be interviewed. He seemed really eccentric and clearly he was. He was rooting for McCain. SELLOUT! Just a little humor, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It was just funny to come across a young black man rooting for McCain. I guess my friend raven, isn’t the only one. She would have been great for this interview because although she has some valid points, she’s very ignorant. And we all know that ignorant people make GREAT TELEVISION. That’s all the time I have, see you guys Monday.

7/ 23/08

I won’t even began to say how much yesterday and today has already SUCKED! Actually, I’m lying, I’m going to talk about it right now! I lost $400 dollars yesterday, along with an $81 dollar metro card and I believe I lost my dignity yesterday as well. But, I refuse to mention why. Anyhow, yesterday was a horrible day. Nope, I’ll correct myself. It was uncompromising. I can’t believe after all the things I’ve learnt this year and how much I’ve changed, that I’m still putting myself in these crappy situations. I still continue to do unnessecary things that are just DUMB! Yes, lack of vocabulary. All I can say is dumb, not even stupid,., just dumb. I have some reevaluating to do, yet AGAIN!

Now, today I get to work extra late because I was not aware that we were to be in at 10. So I got to work at 11:20. Okay, so that sucks. Then I’m watching this BOS taping of a panel of black men complaining about the misinterpretation of black folk”. I’m tired of just talks about our suffering. This is how it was meant to be. I am not implying that it was acceptable, or it should just be forgotten. However, I am saying that we’ve vanquished it and if given “God’s grace” we’ll vanquish our current problems.

Wait, no, not God, according to Christians- Jesus, a man who probably existed or still exists now and is waiting to rapture his believers. A man that is more powerful than God. That is the exact problem with Black people. We complain about our conditions, and yes I am one of the complainers, but I’m not one of the fools. I’m not one of the fools that preach about Jesus Christ begin the almighty savior and then want to blame white folks. Christianity is the white mans’ religion and I’m tired of hearing black activists include him in everything. If Jesus was so powerful and if he was god (which is according to the Bible, which has been re-written many times and excludes lost copies) than why are black people, any group of people in such suffering? According to John 1:1 “In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God and He was God.” “He” was Jesus and why hasn’t he helped us? I believe by the grace of God and the strength of our people that we have excelled in this country, not some cartoon character that everyone perceives to exist.

And I’m so tired of hearing his name even uttered in a conversation about black folks amongst black folks. What black folks lack is understanding. Black folks blame the white man. but carry on his legacy everyday. Black folks have gotten so caught up in the white mans’ religion, that they deny their own heritage and believe something that was revamped and rearranged many times. It probably didn’t even exist.

Early BIRD!

July 22, 2008

Today is Tuesday and I’m here rather early. The first intern to be exact. I was even here before Carlos. Wow! Anyhow, I have a shoot today in the training studio with Michael for “In The Zone”. Thats’ from 11- 2, then I have my break and something else. For some reason, I’m not feeling so happy-go-lucky. I think it’s the weather. Maybe. Or I think it’s because I can’t really work on my article as much as I’d like. I was trying to email to myself for the longest and I can’t. Internet service at home is crappy.

Anyhow, I’m really excited about this article. I think that it will receive many comments, but then again, I don’t know. I feel some type of burden on my shoulders and I know exactly what it is. It’s always problems. isn’t it? But, because I’m the well-rounded respectful person I am, I will complete my tasks and go on for a nice night.

HOPEFULLY!

Passive Day

July 21, 2008

I can’t say much, but today was relaxing and passive. I was editing all day which was good. I was able to learn my own techniques to master my craft. I must head out now. I have yoga at Asphalt Green at 4. I couldn’t miss that in the world with such high rates I pay for membership.

Woo! PAYDAY!

July 18, 2008

I’m so excited it’s Payday today! I have some plans after work, feel me.

As any day, it was relaxed here at BCAT, helped set up two sets, break and now blogging to wrap up the day at three pm. I just can’t wait to get back to editing n the following weeks. I find that rewarding. It’s fun to film something, but the editor has the last say. It looks so cool to put a project together and with my creative personality, i’ll be great at that.

Now, I’m sitting here, listening to Neyo, so excited about getting home later tonight to start working on my third article for Big City Blues. I’m doing a little research on the topic and I’ve found this great site with some wonderful articles. I’ve emailed some of the writers for advice for my article. One guy, Jim, got back to me and I was so appreciative.

I don’t have much to say, but I’m SUPER excited about writing this article. I think it will stir up a lot of controversy on the site and that’s what I need.

July 16, 2008

Yet another day at BCAT. Today I have to go get my debit card from Rockaway Development. However, today was a laidback day as usual. We helped with a taping of “In The Zone”. I set up aduio and some other cables. We watched the host interview a former Brooklyn basketball player. He nows runs a basketball team in Brooklyn. It was cool. Then I had a quick bit to eat and now I’m blogging. It’s really relaxed here and that is so compatabile with my personality.

Early, I was websurfing for some articles on the statistics on dating for both men and women. I got a bunch of stuff that I need for my third piece for Big City Blues. Let me go now. I must report to training studio.

July 15, 2008

Another day at BCAT. I just got in and I’m just blogging to start the day off. I’m just web surfing, reading some of my articles on clubdouble and getting ready for an exciting day today. Thats all I can include now.

I’m back and today was a content day. I learned some forms of editing on Avid. Avid is so simple compared to Final Cut. The only difference is that Avid is not as accesed as Final Cut. I didn’t get to do much with it, but I did learn how to log and deselect audio, organize timelines, etc. It seemed like I learned so much more than I had ever with editing. It was cool.

Then we had a class, where we were learning about the camera. Today was cool.

July 14, 2008

The weekend is over and I’m back at work. Today I was to be in at 10 and couldn’t make it. I got here at 11. Wednesday, I’ll be punctual. Anyhow, when I got in, the interns were in the main studio. I was then introduced to Boom Boom, a drummer who has her own show on BCAT. It’s called the Bernice Brooks Shows. As she introduced herself, she taught us the roles of the people in the control room.

There is the:

Producer- which puts together the details of the show

Director- directs the angles of the camera and the show

Technical Director- directs cameras and visuals on screen from the control room.

Robotics- person directing robotic cameras.

Audio Director0 control audio

Character generator- generate fonts, types names and info for viewers to see on the screen.

After she taught us the roles, she assigned each of us to one to help produce her show. She had a segment with tap dancers from the Hudson Valley Tap Ensemble. it was pretty cool. We put the show together and that was cool. I had the role of character generator. I was taught the program Inscriber/CG Supreme, which has cool fonts, styles and ways to display info for productions. The program was pretty simple. I typed up the info, changed the font, style, etc. It was a cool job. I can’t believe I actually help produce a show that will be seen on TV. Also, our names were in the end credits. It was so cool.

The others had cool jobs as well. Most of the girls were on the floor, directing cameras. Shameeka and I were the only female interns in the control room. Jameer was the technical director. He was excited but having some difficulties with the controls, but he got it down. Tahau controlled the robotics. He helped controlling the cameras to get good shots. Jaryd was the audio director. He controlled audio. Shameeka was the tape operator and she contributed her part to the production as well. Everyone played an important part.

I learned a lot and took good notes. Tomorrow, I’m going to start learning how to edit using Avid. It’s similar to Final Cut, but it has it’s differences as well. I hope to be able to decipher the two tomorrow. The rest of the crew is down stairs, shooting the second show. I gave my job to Shameeka because I’m leaving at three. I didn’t want to leave abruptly during the filming of the show. So now, I’ll leave abruptly. SEE YA TOMORROW!

July 11, 2008

Today was a short day. We came in at 11 and left at 3. We interviewed some people in the office. We also shot two Brooklyn elected Officials with an assembly woman from Staten Island. It was cool. She interviewed two women. One was a prosecutor and the other was a board member. The prosecutor works for Family Justice program which helps people involved in domestic violence, etc. The other woman was a board member of Bay ridge and Fort Hamilton and she talked about her community. The women were really informative and the day ended promptly.

July 10, 2008

Another day as an intern. I guess when you’re working in a field you’re passionate about, you really enjoy soaking up experience. I’ve been enjoying this so far because I know most of the people in vital positions in this industry, started from the bottom. Some even lower than interns. So I’m going to show my potential and do my best. I look forward to all the future assignments we are to complete.

Today, wasn’t a full house. Jazmen was out and so was Jameer. It seemed so relaxed without them. Jazmen’s loquacious personality was gone for a day and so was Jameer. Things still went good. I got in early because yesterday I was ten minutes late. Then I got right to work. I went down to the editing suites to transcribe a tape. After two hours, Lyra corrected me how to accurately transcribe and I was so relieved. I was there for 2 hours with only 5 minutes transcribed. (LMAO)

Once I knew how to do it correctly, I was moving quickly. I was to leave today at 4, but unexpectedly decided to stay till six to make up some hours from this week. Now, I’m writing this as I procrastinate to go downstairs to transcribe the entire tape. You can’t be responsible and a procrastinator, so I’m going to leave on this note and get back to my duties.
